Bruce Hamlin has been promoted to VP of sales at Vancouver-based multicultural TV station Channel M. He joined the channel in January 2003 as director of sales. He oversees the station’s sales team as well as national business in conjunction with Airtime Sales in Toronto. Prior to joining Channel M, Hamlin worked as senior account manager for Rogers Media, Greater Vancouver Radio Group. Sheila de La Varende has been named executive director of the Festival of Nouveau Cinema in Montreal. She takes over the position from Bruno Jobin, who has served as interim executive director since December 2003. Previously, de La Varende held the position of director of Telefilm Canada’s European offices for almost 10 years before being named director of development and international relations. In the early 1990s, she was employed by the department of Foreign Affairs as head of cultural industries. The festival, dedicated to emerging trends in cinema, runs October 14 - 24 at Ex-Centris in Montreal. Pierre Dion has been appointed as executive VP and COO of TVA Group. He will be responsible for all operations of TVA Group and will assist president and CEO Serge Gouin. He took up his new duties on September 7. From 1990 to 1996, he held various executive positions with Vidéotron. Andrée Wylie has been reappointed as CRTC commissioner for a year. Her previous term expired came up on August 30. She was appointed vice-chair of broadcasting on September 1, 1998. She has been a full-time commissioner with the CRTC since March 1995. Brian Bairstow has been appointed to the Western region sales team at TVC Canada, a reseller that supplies the cable, telecom and broadband industries with brand label products and services, such as amplifiers and passives to cable modems and headend systems. Previously, he worked for 15 years in sales at Trispec Communications. Rogers Cable VP of regulatory affairs Pamela Dinsmore has been elected chair of the Cable Television Standards Foundation. She has been on the board since February 2002. She takes over the position from Neil Thomson, director of marketing and sales at Westman Communications. Holly Nelson-Stewart has been appointed as manager of promotions and publicity at Warner Bros. Canada. She will handle national promotions and publicity for Warner Bros. Canada. She worked in the communications department of Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting before returning to Warner Bros. Canada in 2004. She worked as Ottawa field representative for Warner Bros. Canada while studying at Carleton University. As well, Stephanie Brown has been named as manager of promotions and publicity. She served as a summer intern for Warner Bros. Canada in 1998 and 1999. She joined the company as promotions and publicity coordinator in January 2000 after earning a degree from Wilfrid Laurier University. Stephen Tapp has been appointed as president and CEO of Canadian Satellite Radio. He will oversee the company’s efforts to obtain a satellite radio licence. He previously oversaw CHUM Ltd.’s television division (CCR, Aug. 17/04). Raynald Brière has been named as president and COO of Radio Nord Communications. He will be responsible for speeding up the company’s expansion, and also for improving the way its TV and radio stations operate. Rob Radinov is now associate director of market knowledge and research at Bell ExpressVu. Previously, he was marketing manager of market knowledge and research.
