AirIQ Inc. has announced that following its Boatracs LLC acquisition, the new division will be led by David Brandos, currently VP of business development at Boatracs. Brandos is considered a wireless data and location-based services champion in the wireless communications industry, having held executive and board of director roles at Qualcomm, Alltel Communications, Pharos, Aeris.net and the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association. Maria Izurieta has been appointed CFO of Wireless Matrix Inc., a developer of enterprise wireless data services. Izurieta was formerly CFO of VIPdesk where she helped the company increase revenue more than 200% over three years. Prior to that position, she was an independent consultant, serving as CFO for a number of start-up enterprises. Previously, Izurieta was VP of finance and administration at CyberCash Inc. SAMSys Technologies Inc. has appointed Michael Koch as VP of engineering, the first of several new positions to be created at the company in response to the rapidly expanding market for RFID technologies. Koch has more than 20 years experience of senior engineering and product development for a number of enterprises including the last five years as senior engineering director for InterDigital Communications Corp. He also served as senior engineering manager for the wireless messaging group at Motorola Inc. Koch will be responsible for core product development including work on a new generation of RFID readers designed to extend the multi-frequency, multi-protocol UHF reader architecture. Kevin Wennekes has been added to the executive management team of the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance as director of research and advocacy. He comes to the association from ePenso.com a multi-rater feedback and survey provider. Wennekes also brings four years of experience as a consultant with Watson Wyatt Worldwide, an international human resources consulting firm. Gordon Hunter has registered as a lobbyist for DSP Factory Ltd. Hunter is an associate with Policy Insights Inc. He is charged with helping DSP Factory receive funding under Technology Partnerships Canada. Spotwave Wireless has named Bill Carlin as its new CEO effective October 4, replacing Shane Young who will hold onto his president duties. He is currently senior VP and COO of interWAVE Communications, a wireless network infrastructure provider. Carlin brings to the table more than 20 years of international telecommunications, sales, marketing and general management experience in the global wireless, satellite communications and broadband access markets. "With a broad deployment base, solid relationships with the top 10 wireless carriers in North America, a beachhead of product demand in overseas, and recognized technology expertise, the founders and management team have built a strong business, operating in a market segment poised for significant growth. We’re going to move aggressively to capitalize on this incredible potential," Carlin said in a news release. Infowave Software Inc. has made significant management changes and created a technology advisory board. George Reznik, the company’s CFO, has been appointed COO. Additionally, Paul Townsend has been promoted to the role of VP development. Townsend has extensive experience in managing development products and most recently served as Infowave’s director of development. Prior to joining Infowave, he held senior managerial positions with Altus Solutions, CrossKeys Systems Corp. and MPR Teltech. Infowave has also announced that its CTO, Sal Visca, will chair a recently created Advisory Board, which is designed to fuel market adoption and solidify the company’s future growth strategy. He has passed day-to-day development activities to Townsend. Joining Visca on the board is former Infowave director Bill Weiss, who is the former chair and CEO of The Promar Group LLC, an executive strategy firm. Andrew Morden has been appointed CFO of Intrinsyc Software. He brings more than 15 years of experience in finance, accounting and public markets to the table. Modren comes to Intrinsyc from Digital Dispatch Systems Inc. where he played a crucial role as its CFO. Prior to his time as Digital Dispatch, he also held positions at Intrawest Corp., SAP Canada and KPMG.
