Michael Scott has been named as executive producer of the National Film Board’s Prairie Centre, based in Winnipeg. He has been Western Centre animation producer since rejoining the NFB in 2002, and he will continue these duties in his new position. He first began working for the NFB in 1966, but left in 1989 to work in the private sector. Guy Beauchamp, former Vidéotron ltée president and COO, has been named as president of consumer solutions at TELUS Communications. He has worked in the cable business for 25 years, beginning with Télécable Laurentien, a company founded by his father. He was appointed chair of the Canadian Cable Television Association, now the Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association (CCTA), at age 29. He was promoted to president and CEO of Vidéotron Communications in January 2000, and COO of Vidéotron ltée later in the year. He left the cableco after it was acquired by Quebecor Inc. Dolores Keating-Mallen has been promoted to VP, creative director at Corus Entertainment’s Corus Television. She has actively been involved in the rebranding of Movie Central, the launch of Discovery Kids, and the re-launch of W Network. Ed McNamara has joined the Canadian Film and Television Production Association (CFTPA) Toronto as national industrial relations coordinator. He worked at the Ontario Ministry of Finance where he helped coordinate priority projects, including the 2003 and 2004 provincial budgets. He is a graduate of the Canadian Film Centre’s screenwriting resident program and has worked as a freelance adjudicator, screenwriter and story editor. Frank King of Calgary was appointed to the board of directors of CanWest Global Communications Corp. following the regular meeting of the company’s board on November 3. King is president and CEO of Metropolitan Investment Corp. and is the former chair and CEO of the 1988 Calgary Olympics. CanWest has accepted the resignations of two non-independent directors: Thomas Strike, president of CanWest MediaWorks International, and Richard Camilleri, president of CanWest MediaWorks. Strike and Camilleri were elected to the board on an interim basis in January 2004. Ian Charlton has been hired as director of sponsorship and licensing at TSN Events’ NASCAR Canada team. Adrian Sciarra has been appointed as manager of sponsorship and licensing, and Shauna Gosevitz as marketing representative. They are responsible for extending the growth of the NASCAR brand in Canada. Charlton has been part of the Bell Globemedia family since 2002, having previously worked at Report on Business Television as sales account manager, and at CTV as marketing manager of news properties. Most recently, Sciarra was the director of corporate services at Landmark Sport Group. Gosevitz spent two years in the TSN marketing department before joining NASCAR Canada. TSN Events, the sport and special event marketing division of TSN, manages NASCAR Canada. Peter Shier, president of FCB Toronto, has been elected as the new chair of the Institute of Communications and Advertising (ICA). Chris Jordan was elected as vice-chair, and Arthur Fleischmann as director of the executive committee. Other new board members include Robert Clarkson of Carlson Marketing Group Canada, Chris Keevill of Corporate Communications, and David Moore of Leo Burnett. Dave Atman has been promoted to president of Lindsay Electronics, which manufactures broadband gear. He has been with the company 25 years, most recently as VP of sales and marketing. David Colville, commissioner and vice-chair of telecommunications at the CRTC, has announced that he will retire at the end of this year. He has been a commissioner with the telco and broadcast regulator since 1990 and vice-chair of telecom since 1995. Daniel Brock of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP has registered as a lobbyist for CHUM Ltd. He will be lobbying the Ontario government on taxation and finance matters. Cinematheque Ontario senior programmer James Quandt has been awarded the Special Prize for Arts and Culture from The Japan Foundation for his contribution to international cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and other countries.
