Len Pendergast has joined the Independent Film Financing Inc. as VP. He will oversee all aspects of accessing and administering global incentives on behalf of its clients and will be responsible for sourcing and implementing new business opportunities for IFF and Los Angeles-based Comerica Entertainment Group. Most recently, Pendergast was director of tax credits for the Ontario Media Development Corp. Julia Rosenberg has left Serendipity Point Films to establish her own company January Films. She will still have ties to Serendipity, with her offices in the same building as Robert Lantos. Rosenberg will continue to oversee Serendipity’s development slate, and she may produce some of the company’s films. Broadcast veteran Trina McQueen and Peter Herrndorf, president of the National Arts Centre and past head of TVO, have been appointed to the board of directors of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as part-time members. Guy Fournier, who penned a report for the CRTC on what ails the homegrown French-language TV drama and was involved in the launch of Télévision Quatre-Saisons, was also named as a part-time board member. Mi’kmaq lawyer Bernd Christmas and Vancouver businesswoman Nezhat Khosrowshahi were also named to the board. Wendy MacKeigan has resigned as chair and president of The Harold Greenberg Fund. She has worked for 10 years at Astral Media, which oversees the fund. A replacement has not yet been named. Cameron Bailey has been named as international programmer at the Toronto International Film Festival. Bailey will focus on films from Africa and South Asia, and independent filmmakers in the United States and Europe. Bailey previously worked for TIFF from 1990 to 1997, and founded the Planet Africa section in 1995. Martine Maltais as joined the staff of NABT 70 CEP Toronto Film and Video Technicians as business manager. Previously, she worked for the Association québécoise des réalisateurs et réalisatrices de cinéma et de télévision, which is now the Association des réalisateurs et réalisatrices du Québec. Dianne Collins has joined Channel M as news director. She has over 25 years experience in television and radio newsrooms across the country, most recently with BC CTV and CKWX. Sun-Kyung Yi has been appointed as program executive in residence with CBC Television’s Independent Documentary Unit. She will devise and implement strategies to enrich and expand the diversity of perspectives and views in CBC Television’s independent and documentary programming. She directed Scenes From A Corner Store, Thai Girls and other social and cultural documentaries. She took on the position effective February 1, with her appointment being made possible through CBC Television’s Express Diversity initiative. Robert Fife has assumed the role of CTV’s Ottawa news bureau chief, and Craig Oliver has been appointed chief political correspondent. According to the CTV media release, Oliver asked for the change. Fife will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the bureau. Previously, Fife was the Ottawa bureau chief for CanWest News Service and the National Post. Kenton Boston joins Global National News as executive producer of Global National and special projects, and Jacques Bourbeau assumes the position of Ottawa bureau chief, Global News. Kevin Kowal has been promoted to integration/project manager at OMT Inc., an entertainment technology and content delivery provider to the broadcast and related industries. He will be directly responsible for working with iMediaTouch customers to help them implement their new system. IMediaTouch is a suite of audio content management and digital delivery software for commercial broadcast radio applications operating in more than 1,000 radio stations in North America, Asia and Europe. Robert Asselin, consultant with StrategyCorp Ottawa Inc., has registered as a lobbyist for Bell GlobeMedia. He will be lobbying on the matters with regard to the Broadcasting Act, and also on the Canadian Television Fund and Telefilm Canada.
