William Pieser has been appointed VP of marketing at Infowave Software Inc. He brings more than 20 years experience in product development, corporate marketing, business development, and mergers and acquisitions to the company. He has worked in a number of industry sectors including military/aerospace, communications/networking and enterprise software. Most recently, Pieser was executive VP of business development for CapitalStream, a provider of front office automation to the financial services industry. Mike Donnell has resigned as president and CEO of Zi Corp. He will be replaced on an interim basis by Michael Lobsinger, chair of the board of directors. In a statement to employees, Donnell said that it was no longer in the best interests of his family to continue commuting from Denver to Calgary. Contec Innovations has appointed Donald Lay as its CEO, replacing Perry Quan who will remain with the company as a director. Lay has more than 20 years experience in systems software and venture finance. He has substantial experience in the Asian mobile wireless market, having served as a principle at One Degree Capital. Lay also held sales positions with Dun & Bradstreet Software and SAS Institute. He is a director of Contec and played a significant role in raising the company’s initial cash infusion. Going forward, Lay along with co-founders Quan and Roland Schmidt will form the executive management team. In his new capacity, Quan will continue to direct the company’s product lines. Stephen Sigmond has been appointed to Diversinet Corp.’s advisory board, joining a number of other security industry experts. Sigmond is a venture partner at Bluestream Ventures, where he leads the company’s investment activities in the information security sector. Prior to his job at BlueStream, he was managing director of equity research at RBC Capital Markets. Diversinet’s advisory board is made up of Sigmond, Richard Clarke, Roger Cressey, Taher Elgamal, Patrick Gauthier and Howard Schmidt. France Poulin has registered as a lobbyist for Bell Canada. Poulin is chief of government relations at the telco. She plans to lobby the government in the areas of telecommunications and broadcasting policy, as well as consumer issues, intellectual property, science and technology, taxation and finance, labour and others. Sierra Systems Group Inc. has appointed new senior executives as part of the company’s restructuring of its consulting operations in both Western and Eastern Canada. Bill Thomson has been named executive VP Western operations, moving up from his previous position of British Columbia branch manager. He joined the company in 1978. John Broere, formerly the branch manager of the company’s Los Angeles operations, has been appointed executive VP Eastern operations. He joined the company in 2002.
