Doug Lamb has been named to the position of executive VP and CFO at CanWest MediaWorks, CanWest Global Communications Corp.’s broadcast and interactive media division. Before joining the company, Lamb was VP at Torstar Corp.’s Metroland Printing, Publishing and Distributing Ltd. Prior to that, he was a partner at Southam Inc.’s Hollinger Capital division, a venture capital and technology investment firm. Lamb has also worked as a financial consultant for various clients in the media, technology and private equity investment sectors. Vincent Carlin has been appointed to the position of ombudsman for the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.’s English-language radio and TV networks and online programming. He will investigate audience complaints and comments, and evaluates compliance with the public broadcaster’s journalistic policies. Most recently, Carlin completed six and a half years as chair of the Ryerson University’s School of Journalism, and is currently an associate professor at the school. As well, he has often served as an expert witness in court cases on issues of libel, journalistic practice and media ethics. He takes over for David Bazay, who will be retiring at the end of November. Mark Fletcher has been appointed as VP of global sales at SAMSys Technologies Inc. of Richmond Hill, ON. Fletcher comes to SAMSys from Blue Water Communications LLC. He has also held posts with Tandberg, a New York-based videoconferencing system manufacturer, and British Telecom. Dale Fallon has been promoted as director of CHUM Interactive (CNM Update, Aug. 2/05). He will be responsible for streamlining the operations of CHUM’s existing interactive businesses. Fallon has led the operations, technology and design groups within CHUM Interactive since 2001, providing leadership in the development and implementation of many projects including a content management system for 15 of CHUM’s conventional and specialty TV station web sites, a centralized membership and contesting system and a ringtones store. Prior to joining CHUM, he was the original Web master for Bell Canada’s Sympatico consumer web portal. Two new directors have been named to the board of pre-recorded media products firm Cinram International Inc. of Markham, ON. Robert B. Jamieson is a 30-year veteran of the recording industry, and has worked for such labels as CBS (now Sony) Records, PolyGram, RCA Music Group, and BMG, where he was chairman and chief executive officer of BMG North America before joining Cinram. Michael P. Sherman has been involved with the direct marketing industry for more than two decades, having founded Crosstown Traders Inc., a gourmet food and clothing catalogue business based in Arizona, in 2002. Prior to that, Sherman was president of Fingerhut Companies, the monthly-payment catalogue shopping arm of U.S. retail giant Federated Department Stores.
