Blouin appointed new CEO of MTS AllstreamManitoba Telecom Services Inc. pulled off a major coup this week when it announced that Pierre Blouin was joining the company as its chief executive. He will serve as CEO of both Manitoba Telecom and MTS Allstream Inc. Blouin will be charged with transforming the telecommunications service provider into a nimble and agile provider – one that can compete more effectively against the likes of Bell Canada and Telus Corp. as well as the emerging, but growing systems integrators. He joins the company only days after it announced Transition Phase II, a restructuring that will see MTS Allstream cut about 800 jobs, 80% of which will come from the national division. The reorganization is designed to improve the operational effectiveness and efficiencies for the company. "I look forward to using my two decades of experience in the telecommunications industry to lead the company through its next phase as a national communications provider," Blouin said in a news release. Brian McCarthy has been appointed chair of the board of directors of 1800 Connect Inc., replacing Byron Osing founder of the company, who will remain on the board. McCarthy brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served at General Electric as executive VP of technology and business strategy. He also served as president of the Integrated Systems division at GE Interlogix. Prior to his stint at GE, he was CEO of Interlogix before it was acquired by GE. For more than 15 years, he held a number of senior executive roles at ADT Inc. where he last served as senior VP of operations. The Toronto-based company also announced that Craig Goldman has resigned his position as director of the company effective immediately, in conjunction with his retirement plans. Vancouver-based iPackets International Inc. has announced the appointment of Frank Chen to its board of directors, effective immediately. A technology and investment executive, Chen has extensive knowledge in technology, investment banking, corporate management and global capital markets in both North America and Asia. With more than 25 years experience in the financial and investment industry, his carrier includes retail and commercial management, investors relations, marketing, finance and strategic planning. Rade Gvozdanovic has been named director of research and development for Avaya Inc.’s small and medium business solutions (SMBS) group. Since November 2004, Gvozdanovic has served as senior technical manager for the group’s R&D activities where he has played a key role in establishing the technology strategy and has led software development initiatives for the Avaya IP Office product. He previously worked for Nortel Networks in the United Kingdom where he led research and development efforts for the company’s gateway products.
