Randy Reynolds has been appointed president of Rogers Telecom Inc., effective December 12. Rogers Telecom is the former Call-Net Enterprises Inc. operation that Rogers Communications acquired this year. Reynolds, who will report to Nadir Mohamed, president and COO of the communications group at the company, will be responsible for driving Rogers Telecom’s focus on the small, medium and large businesses. He has experience in telecom primarily with Bell Canada where he served as president and CEO for BCE Mobile, Bell Nexxia and Bell West. Rogers Communications has also announced that Alan Horn, currently CFO, will become vice-chair of the board and president and CEO of Rogers Telecommunications Ltd., the holding company of the Rogers’ family private investments, effective April 25, 2006. Horn has served as CFO since 1996. As well, Bill Linton, currently executive VP of Rogers Communications, will become VP finance and CFO of the company, effective the same date. Linton was previously president and CEO of Call-Net Enterprises Inc. prior to its acquisition of Rogers in July. Saskatchewan Telecommunications has named Bill Beckman as GM of regulatory affairs, effective December 1. He replaces Candice Molnar who was appointed GM of SaskTel’s customer services operations. Beckman has been with SaskTel for more than 18 years where he worked in the legal department and human resources as well as for SaskTel International for three years in Leicester, England. Most recently, he served a manager of marketing for corporate initiatives, long distance, access, features and the consumer and small business segments. Frank Clegg has joined Navantis Inc., a provider of premium IT services and solutions, as corporate director and chair of the board of directors. Clegg was previously president of Microsoft Canada. A news release indicated that "Clegg will work closely with the Navantis management team to define the company’s future direction and growth strategy, particularly around its expansion into emerging new markets." Clegg has twice served as president of Microsoft Canada with his first tenure ending in 1996 and his second running from 2000 to 2005. He also held senior management positions at IBM Canada. David Hemler has resigned as president of Microsoft Canada. He has returned to the United States for personal reasons and will remain an employee of Microsoft Corp. Hemler leaves the position less than a year at the helm. He had replaced Frank Clegg in January of this year. Phil Sorgen, who has been leading Microsoft’s enterprise business in the United States, will replace Hemler. Nortel Networks Corp. has appointed Joel Hackney as senior VP in charge of global supply chain and quality. He will work out of Nortel’s Research Tri-angle Park facility in North Carolina. Most recently, Hackney was responsible for GE’s operations in Spain. He succeeds Sue Spradley who recently left the company and Chahram Bolouri. Both were long-time Nortel employees. Cygnal Technologies Corp. has appointed James Shannon as VP of finance and CFO, effective December 16. Michael Conway, who is a director of the company, has been holding this position on an interim basis, but will continue in an executive role to ensure a smooth transition. Shannon has more than 20 years of financial experience, where he most recently served as CFO for Sodisco-Howden Group Inc. Prior to that, he was director of trade finance and financial planning for Skyjack Inc. The new Telus Corp. has lost a valuable executive following the merger of the company’s mobility and communications business units. Wade Oosterman, formerly chief marketing officer (CMO) for Telus Mobility, is leaving the company. When the corporate integration was announced, it was revealed that a Oosterman was in discussions with the company to find another position within the organization. "The outcome of the discussions is that a suitable alternative role for Mr. Oosterman has not been found," read a news release. In the newly integrated organization, there won’t be a CMO, and the executive leadership has been reduced from 12 to nine positions. Manaris Corp. has appointed Bernard Bougie to its board of directors and chair of the company’s audit committee. He was senior partner at Deloitte & Touche for more than 20 years. Bougie is a seasoned executive and corporate director with expertise in accounting, finance and corporate governance issues. "Mr. Bougie’s background on corporate governance issues and regulatory matters compliment the knowledge of our current board members," Manaris president and CEO John Fraser said in a news release.
