Felipe Barrios III has been appointed financial controller of TelePlus Wireless Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Montreal-based TelePlus Enterprises Inc. Barrios brings more than 18 years of accounting and finance experience to the company, having previously worked for COEX Coffee International, Coconut Grove Playhouse, Systems Union and Nortel Networks, where he held senior roles in finance, financial analysis and accounting. Barrios will oversee TelePlus Wireless’ financial and accounting requirements and will work from its Miami office. iPackets International Inc. has named Liu Wenge to its advisory board. Currently, Liu is the acting director of the energy and safety division of the China Coal Information Intitute, a national research organization that leads in the development of coal industry and occupational safety, which was established by the Chinese government in 1959. In his role on the advisory board, Liu will keep iPackets informed of changes or additions to coal mining legislation, and provide the company with market intelligence. The Vancouver-based iPackets, develops and provides wireless and communications for selected enterprises, including the mining industry. George Riedel has been named chief strategy officer at Nortel, where he will be responsible for leading corporate strategy including business development and acquisitions and mergers. Riedel was most recently VP strategy and corporate development at Juniper Networks, and a director at the management consulting firm McKinsey and Company for 15 years prior to that. Additional roles at Nortel will have Riedel focusing on emerging technologies, market opportunities and strategic partnerships. Vancouver-based Voice Mobility International Inc., a provider of enhanced messaging solutions, has retained the services of Marty Parker in an advisory role. Parker, who launched his own consulting practice, Communications Perspectives, in 2005, will assist with strategic and tactical planning for VMI. His extensive qualifications include many senior positions in the telecom industry, including CEO of Genesis Electronics, founder and CEO of VoiceSoft, and director of messaging strategy, marketing, and product management for AT&T Business Communications Systems, Lucent Technologies and Avaya Inc.
