Mario Palumbo, VP of engineering for Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. has decided to leave the company this May and has already started the transition. Palumbo, who joined the Burnaby BC-based software company in 1998, is leaving to pursue a senior management role in a start-up venture. A search for Palumbo’s successor is currently underway. CMP Media has recognized David Roberts of McAfee Inc. as a CRN Channel Chief – an executive who defends, promotes and executes effective channel partner programs and strategies. He was selected for advancing McAfee’s channel, through such achievements as being named vendor of the year by Ingram Micro US, Tech Data US and Softchoice. Roberts also introduced McAfee Security Alliance, a global partner program designed to help the company’s reseller partners more effectively support their end-user customers. Top Channel Chiefs are selected based on criteria including policy and program innovations, revenues generated through partners, the number of years dedicated to channel activities, and a willingness to speak out on behalf of the channel. This is the fourth year CRN has released the Channel Chief list. Electronics manufacturer DDI Corp. has named Robert Houghton VP information technology, where he will help drive technology throughout the company’s manufacturing facilities. Houghton joins DDI from Western Digital Corp. where he most recently held the position of CIO for the IT division. Previous to that he was manager of global training and technology for Adaptec’s business information solutions group. All told, Houghton has over 25 years of experience in operations, infrastructure and oversight of IT applications at various manufacturing companies. Wireless technology and market analyst Clint Wheelock has joined ABI Research. Wheelock most recently served as VP wireless at the NDP Group, and director of wireless research for In-Stat prior to that. He also brings industry experience including senior product management, new product development, and marketing strategy positions focused on mobile wireless, broadband, and consumer video services at Qwest Communications and GTE (now Verizon Communications). Albert Scarinci has been named director, technical support of the secure application access business at AEP Networks Inc., where he will oversee all application security product support activity. Scarinci spent the past five years as senior network engineer for Cenlar Federal Savings Bank, and had a 15 year career in law enforcement previous to that. AEP provides a full range of network security solutions, including identity-based application security gateways, highly secure VPNs, SSL VPNs, and cryptographic key management products.
