Northwestel seeks price regulation, opponents decry proposed rate increases

Consumer groups, northern businesses and territorial governments had dramatically different reactions than Telus Corp. to Northwestel Inc.’s proposal for a new telecommunications regulatory framework for the north. At a four-day-long public hearing last week, northerners also had a difference of opinion with Northwestel on just how much telecommunications competition is currently in place.
