Ruling on Tariff 24 should amount to millions for SOCAN

Much to the dismay of Canada’s wireless carriers, the Copyright Board of Canada ruled on August 18 that the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) will receive a royalty rate of 6% on revenue from ringtone downloads, for which a SOCAN licence is required, between 2003 and 2005.
