Telesat Canada, a subsidiary of BCE Inc., has announced that its president and CEO Larry Boisvert has decided to retire after 13 years in the position and nearly 34 years with the Ottawa-based company. He will remain a senior advisor to the satellite operator. Daniel Goldberg, a former president and CEO with SES New Skies, has been tapped to replace Boisvert. Goldberg has been working in the communications sector for the past 15 years and with satellite companies for the past eight. "He knows the satellite service industry, has produced exceptional operating results, and is no stranger to the recapitalization process Telesat and BCE are working on," CEO of BCE Michael Sabia said in a news release. Peer 1 Network Enterprises has promoted Fabio Banducci from executive VP to president. Lance Tracey, who resigned as president to make way for the Banducci promotion, remains as CEO and chair of the board of directors. Andrea Messineo has been appointed regional VP of AT&T for Canada, the Caribbean and Latin American region. She is taking over the responsibilities, formerly held by John Slamecka. Messineo will be charged with leading a team of more than 200 professionals servicing customers requiring managed data network services. She will also be responsible for teams in 15 other countries, including Mexico, Argentina and Brazil. Prior to this position, she was responsible for supplying the requirements of AT&T’s multinational companies, including standardizing global operations, expanding services globally, evaluating profit and loss results, and cultivating global relationships. Mike Hilton, currently senior VP of product management at Visiphor Corp., has taken over as senior VP of sales and marketing. Hilton takes over from Dan Vermeire, who has left the company for personal reasons. Vermeire will, however, remain with the firm in a consultant role. Maximizer Software has appointed John Caputo president to lead the company’s aggressive global go-to-market strategy. Caputo was formerly CFO and co-president with the company. The move is part of a realignment and succession plan that also sees the company’s CTO and co-president Tom Bennett take a seat on the firm’s board of directors. Yovav Meydad has been appointed to ZIM Corp.’s advisory board. He will help with business and technology development of ZIM’s mobile content and peer-to-peer Internet TV strategy. Meydad is the former chief of product management at Spark Networks. Patrick Hofbauer, Kevin Holbeche and Matthew Thurlow have joined Lang Michener, one of the country’s leading business law firms. The three men are formerly of Hofbauer Associates, an intellectual property boutique firm that specialized in patents, trademarks, copyrights and industrial design. Dan York, Mitel Networks’ director of IP technology and a member of the company’s CTO office, has been appointed to the Voice over IP Security Alliance’s (VOIPSA) board of directors. He will be best practices chair. VOIPSA is an industry association dedicated to VoIP security and education. As chair of best practices, York will be leading the project to develop and document a concise set of industry-wide best practices for security of VoIP systems. Bert Whyte has been names COO of Solace Systems, a provider of value-added services routing systems. He has nearly 40 years experience in the telecommunications industry, having a number of senior level positions including president and CEO of Network Equipment Technologies Inc. and Advanced Computer Communications. Whyte also worked at Newbridge Networks (acquired by Alcatel SA), Mitel Networks, Ericsson and Siemens AG.
