US spectrum auction ends, nets government nearly US$14 billion

The US federal government is now nearly US$14 billion richer after the Federal Communications Commission’s advanced wireless services (AWS) spectrum auction closed on September 18 with 104 bidders securing the rights to 1,087 licences. A total of 1,122 licences in the 1710-1755 MHz and 2110-2155 MHz bands were up for grabs.
