Industry veteran Karen Macdonald has been named news director at CanWest MediaWorks Inc.’s Global Television operations in Quebec. With more than two decades of experience in both the editorial and management sides of the media business, Macdonald will oversee the network’s three Quebec news bureaus in Montreal, Quebec City and Sherbrooke from her office in Montreal. She currently serves as station manager at Global’s CKMI station in Quebec City, and will assume her new responsibilities on November 1. In addition to her achievements in launching new Global properties such as Talking Heads, Global News Sunday and QC Magazine, Macdonald was also awarded the YWCA’s Women of Distinction award last year for the communications category.
