Nick Curry, CIO at MTS Allstream Inc., has been named this year’s top CIO by Canadian Business magazine. As CIO, he is responsible for all aspects of the company’s internal IT service operations, system applications and business process transformation functions. Curry has more than 25 years IT experience, and prior to joining MTS Allstream in 2001, he was CIO at the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba and Great-West Life – Canada Division. Brian McCarthy has been appointed executive chair of the board of directors of 180 Connect Inc. on a full-time basis, after serving on aninterim basis since March 2006. He was originally appointed to the position to lead the execution and turnaround of the business and to work with the board and management team to investigate, develop and implement strategic options for the company. Prior to joining 180 Connect, he served as executive VP of technology and business strategy at General Electric Security Inc. and president of the integrated systems division of GE Interlogix. Previously, McCarthy served as CEO for the Americas at Interlogix, prior to its acquisition by General Electric. In addition, he held senior executive roles with ADT Ltd. Miro Forest has been appointed senior technical advisor of Active Control Technology Inc. With more than 30 years experience in the telecommunications and networking industries, he will oversee ACT’s wireless technology architecture. Prior to joining Active Control, he developed systems and provided regulatory guidance at Bell Canada, Sprint Canada and many other telecommunications and wireless providers. TRLabs has appointed Wing Kwong as manager of business development for Manitoba with the responsibility for expanding information and communications technology (ICT) research programs in the province. He will also be charged with enhancing productive industry, government and university research relationships. For the past five years, Kwong has held the positions of product development manager, technical sales manager and senior customer systems engineer with Qunara/MTS Allstream. He brings an integrated business and technology perspective on marketing, development, sales and delivery of successful telecommunications and ICT services. Kwong founded an ecommerce consulting firm in 1998, and continued to manage and grow the company which specialized in conceptualization, business case development and implementation of business-to-consumer ecommerce solutions. 3P Networks Inc., a Vancouver-based emerging provider of integrated telecommunications services enabling triple-play services for the multi-dwelling unit, hotel, resort and healthcare markets, has bolstered its management team with three key appointments. Harj Panesar has been appointed CTO, David Alexander as CFO and Martin Palacios as an advisor to the board of directors. Panesar has more than 18 years experience in the IT industry, having worked at Syntecor and Computer Associates. Alexander has held the CFO position for a number of publicly traded and private companies. In the past 10 years, he has been successful in raising more than US$50 million in capital. Palacios is a senior executive with more than 17 years experience in IT, healthcare and high-tech management, including mergers and acquisitions, strategic and operational planning, turn around activities and divestitures. Gottfried Heim has been appointed sales director for Mediatrix Telecom Inc. with the responsibility for Northern Europe. Based out of the company’s offices in Germany, he will be charged with expanding sales of Mediatrix’s telecommunications products throughout the region. Heim joins the company from Deutsche Post where he held positions of account manager and sales consultant. He also worked at an e-government solutions company called Systemhaus GmbH.
