Go global with Delilah and Julius
Global Assignment is a replayable online game based on the TV show Delilah and Julius. Each time the game is played, the computer selects from a random number of cities, clue locations, villains, and mini games to create a unique puzzle for each new visitor. As a result, the game can be played in a possible eight million combinations before the exact same configuration is played twice.
The game was able to benefit greatly from concurrent production with the show, currently airing on Teletoon. Sprites and backgrounds for the game are based on artwork produced for the show, thereby increasing the amount of finished scenery, characters, and props while simultaneously reducing the cost to produce. Voice recording sessions for the game were also scheduled to coincide with the show’s recording timeline.
The software for the project was custom-coded using Microsoft Corp.’s Visual Studio tools and Adobe Systems Inc.’s Flash 7. At the beginning of each visit to the site, the game’s server-side database creates a game path that determines which villain you will be up against, where the clues to the villain’s capture are located, and what the final battle against the villain will be and where it will take place. Every element of the game is independent of each other, allowing for both subtle and large changes every time the game is played.
A final extension to the game, to be launched concurrently with the second season of Delilah and Julius, is an "episode maker" which will construct a short "episode" of the show that recaps the highlights of the game you just played.
Global Assignment is produced by Collideascope Digital Productions Inc., and Delilah and Julius is a co-production between Collideascope and Decode Entertainment Inc.
