Think brings DVB-S to Cable Cable
Brief | March 1, 2007
Cable Cable Inc., a cablesystem operator servicing Ontario’s Kawartha Lakes recreational region as well as the town of Fenelon Falls, will soon have a new all-digital system compliant with Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) standards thanks to a partnership with Tri-Vision International Ltd.’s Think Broadband Solutions Inc. unit. Toronto-based Think Broadband will supply basic digital, HD and PVR set-top boxes to Cable Cable as well as digital head-end, software and installation support, and conditional access technology from Oslo, Norway-based Conax AS. Since DVB is a family of open standards overseen by three European broadcasting standards bodies, Cable Cable expects to reap some savings from fewer technology licensing fees and similar cost reductions. "Finally, a technologically sound solution that does not have us married to the manufacturer’s whim," said Cable Cable GM Michael Fiorini in a media release. "We are fully independent from what has historically proven to be a financially burdening process."
