Kangaroo makes leap to retail

Brief | March 9, 2007

Riding high on the first year of renting its devices at auto races in the United States, Kangaroo Media Inc. of Montreal is now selling its NASCAR Nextel FanView handsets on Nextel’s website, www.nextel.com/fanview, or at NASCAR events. The devices allow fans in the stands to punch up feeds from multiple cameras around the racetrack, as well as driver statistics, bios and other data. "Fans tell us they love being their own sports producer. They can select what they would like to watch and listen to as they’re sitting in the stands," said Dean Kessel, Sprint Nextel’s director of marketing for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, in a media release. Meanwhile, Kangaroo Media president and CEO Marc Arsenault said: "This launch is a major milestone in the rollout of our business plan."
It’s not all smooth sailing for Kangaroo Media however: last month, a firm by the name of Immersion Entertainment, LLP filed a patent violation suit against the Canadian company in United States District Court’s Eastern District of Texas, Tyler Division.
