The (Mobile) Empire Strikes Back

Brief | March 9, 2007

Empire Theatres, which operates a national chain of movie houses from its Stellarton NS base, recently announced the launch of a mobile application that allows theatre-goers to browse current film titles and show times as well as order tickets from their handset. The application must be downloaded using a J2ME-enabled phone from Empire Theatres’ mobile website at http://mobile.empiretheatres.com/emobile.jad – it then runs via the device’s wireless Internet connection. There’s also a try-before-you-download demonstration module located on the main Empire Theatres site, www.empiretheatres.com. "We know this fresh approach will allow us to stay connected to our young movie-going audience and also provide convenience to professionals and young families who lead busy lives," said Dean Leland, Empire Theatres’ VP of marketing and media. "This application has been tested on staff members’ phones and they love it."
