Balsillie decreasing responsibility at RIM
People | March 12, 2007
Jim Balsillie, one of the executives behind BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion Ltd., has resigned as chair of the board. He will continue to hold his other two positions – director and co-CEO – but is vacating the chair in response to errors made related to stock option costs and earnings. He has served as chair since 1992. The company is also making other changes to its board, appointing Barbara Stymiest, the former CEO of TSX Group and current COO of Royal Bank of Canada, and John Wetmore, former president of IBM Canada. CFO Dennis Kavelman will become the company’s COO of administration and operations.
