Topalovich resigns from Academy

Maria Topalovich has resigned as president and CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. Topalovich will leave the Academy at the end of her contract on April 30, 2007. During her 28-year tenure, Topalovich helped to create the first Genie Awards in 1980 and also played a major role in establishing the Gemini Awards in 1986. She is also the author of two anthologies on the Canadian film industry. A search committee has been formed to identify an appropriate candidate to fill the position. In the interm, national chair Paul Gratton will serve as CEO of the Academy.
