Tandberg releases server-based video conferencing

Brief | May 16, 2007

Video conferencing-system provider Tandberg has unveiled Movi, a server-based video conferencing system. Positioned as an easy stepping stone for companies interested in video conferencing, it's hosted on a 1u rack-mount server and accessed by users via PC Web browsers and webcams. Tandberg says Movi is easy for companies to manage because there's no software on end users' computers to worry about. It supports up to 768 Kbps per call, and it provides bandwidth control. Tandberg is battling new video conferencing entrants such as Hewlett-Packard Co. and Cisco Systems Inc., both of which have introduced expensive, high-definition systems over the past couple of years.
