Len Katz, executive director at the CRTC, has been appointed vice-chair of telecommunications, and Peter Menzies has joined as a part-time member of the commission. Since taking over as executive director in 2005, Katz has greatly improved the responsiveness of both the broadcasting and telecom braches, while at the same time maintaining the quality and transparency of CRTC processes. Menzies has spent his career in the newspaper business, notably as publisher and GM of the Calgary Herald from 2003 to 2006 and editor-in-chief from 1999 to 2003.
