Shaw subs up across the board in Q1

Shaw Communications Inc. last week announced its first quarter results for the three months ended November 30, 2007. During the quarter Shaw's basic cable subscribers increased by 8,138 to 2,234,979, digital cable subs were up 39,496 to 802,636, Internet customers grew by 34,719 to 1,486,475, and digital phone line subscriptions were up 50,339 to 435,696. As well, DTH customers increased by 1,544 to 881,129, and net income for the quarter was up $32 million to $112 million over the same period from the previous year. "We are off to a solid start in 2008," said CEO Jim Shaw in a news release. "Our first quarter results put us firmly on track to deliver on our annual operational and financial objectives." Already a triple-play provider, Shaw also noted the company is reviewing the advanced wireless spectrum auction rules but would not comment further on the companies intentions.
