Canadian games market hits $2.09 billion

The Canadian games market hit a record high in 2008 – $2.09 billion in revenues – with growth over last year of 23%, according to new data released by NPD Canada. The top seller was the Wii, with 44.1% of overall sales (838,000 unit), followed by the Xbox 360 with 25.5% (485,000 units) and the PlayStation 3 with 21.7% (412,000 units). The top-selling Canadian game of the year was MTV Games’ Rock Band, which topped not only Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV, but also Nintendo‘s Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit.
