CANARIE leads pilot to reduce ICT carbon footprint

Briefs | 02/19/2009 7:04 pm EST

CANARIE is investing $3 million in a pilot program to demonstrate the viability of a zero carbon cyber-infrastructure facility. The project will develop and test business models stemming from a reduction in the use of non-renewable energy sources for information and communications technology (ICT) activity. The Green IT Pilot is an international initiative headquartered in Canada that will bring experts from around the world to attend a March 4th workshop in Ottawa to identify partners and their contributions. The hope is to design ICT infrastructure that can incorporate wind, solar and other sources of renewable energy to reduce its carbon footprint.
