Research in Motion Ltd. is following in Apple Corp.’s footsteps and is launching an applications store for its BlackBerry devices. The company expects 1,000 applications to be available on BlackBerry App World this week. The application store is now available to BlackBerry users in the US, the UK and Canada. Users in additional countries will soon be able to access a version as well. Users in these countries can download the BlackBerry App World application to their BlackBerry smartphone by visiting www.blackberry.com/appworld from their handset. "BlackBerry App World aggregates a wide variety of personal and business apps in a way that makes it very easy for consumers to discover and download the apps that suit them while preserving the appropriate IT architecture and controls required by our enterprise customers,” said Mike Lazaridis, president and Co-CEO.
