CTV Inc. is trying something new and unorthodox with its music digital channels. The broadcaster announced last week that its MuchMusic digital stations – MuchVibe, MuchLOUD, MuchMoreRetro, and PunchMuch – will be broadcast commercial free beginning August 31. The company will continue to include commercials on its more profitable and mature services, MuchMusic and MuchMoreMusic. “Commercial-free stations mean subscribers across the country get an uninterrupted fix of their favorite music videos all the time.” Brad Schwartz, senior VP and GM, Much MTV Group, said in a statement. The majority of revenue – about 75% -- for the four digital stations came from monthly subscription fees in 2008. Combined, the stations generated took in $2.7 million in revenue last year. That pales in comparison to MuchMusic and MuchMoreMusic which generated more than $66 million in revenue in 2008, of which about 25% came from subscriber revenue.
