Bell has welcomed a government of Canada directive to the CRTC requesting that a public hearing be conducted on the contentious fee-for-carriage issue. Mirko Bibic, Senior VP, regulatory and government affairs welcomed the move, which will solicit views from the general public. “By committing to put the interests of the consumer first, the Minister has reassured Canadians that their voice will be heard,” he said in a statement. The CRTC has announced that the hearing will take place in December. The hearing will examine the following: -Impact of a compensation regime on local and regional news, information and public affairs programming. -Impact of a compensation regime on the communications industry and business models in the digital age.
