Ericsson has announced that it will provide Manitoba-based MTS Allstream a network solution to overlay its existing CDMA mobile network with HSPA+ technology. HSPA+ boosts network capacity and enables data rates of up to 21 Mbps. This will increase data speeds across MTS’s entire CDMA network. In conjunction with the previously announced shared network and roaming agreement between MTS and Rogers Communications, the technology overlay will give MTS’s customer base improved access speeds as well as act as the foundation for MTS’s future technology plans. Ericsson will supply MTS with an end-to-end mobile broadband overlay infrastructure solution (both hardware and software); including radio access network technology, mobile switching solutions, mobile packet backbone, network management systems and professional services. In other news, MTS has selected solutions from Actiontec electronics to power its high-speed residential DSL service. The products include Actiontec's GT724WG 54 Mbps Wireless DSL Gateway and the GT701D USB/Ethernet DSL Modem. Support for the ADSL2/2+ standard can triple the available bandwidth from 8 Mbps to 24 Mbps. The gateway also includes an Internet firewall with four user-configurable protection levels, as well as WEP security to protect the home network from outside threats.
