Telus deploys new platform to support HSPA migration

Telus Corp. has chosen SmartTrust's advanced Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) and device management platform to help it introduce advanced offerings to its subscribers in the coming years. SmartTrust, a developer of MDM and SIM management software for mobile operators, will provide Telus with a platform that will maintain a high level of reliability and performance on its just-launched 3G+ (HSPA+) wireless network and help the company move toward the use of a 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network. Telus says using the SmartAct Over-the-Air (OTA) SIM management software will help it increase customer satisfaction and reduce churn since subscribers can more easily use mobile devices on a network. In related news, Telus has implemented has also implemented a new signaling solution for its 3G+ Network. The telco has contracted with Tekelec, Morrisville, NC, to provide its SIGTRAN signaling system 7 over Internet protocol, which will position Telus in its planned migration to LTE technology. Interoperability among equipment underpins our ability to improve customers' services and experiences,” Ken Kerrigan, Telus' VP of technology strategy, said in a release. “Tekelec brings a flexible and scalable SIGTRAN solution, ensuring that we can support a combination of network technologies as we grow our customer base and provide new offerings.” For more information, Tekelec has a whitepaper available for download on the different SIGTRAN network architecture concepts.
