Drivers will no longer be allowed to use handheld wireless electronic devices in Prince Edward Island as of Jan. 23. The list of forbidden devices includes cellular phones, smartphones, GPS devices and laptops. However one-touch, hand-free devices, such as two-way radios, are permitted. Those convicted of using handhelds while driving will face a fine ranging from $250 to $400 and will lose three demerit points. Recent research has shown that making phone calls and texting while driving significantly increases the risk of accidents.
