MTS Allstream Inc. announced Thursday it will make a $2 million investment to expand its wireless network coverage into eight rural communities in Manitoba. Manitoban communities like Churchill and Spirit Lake will be able to make wireless phone calls, access email and surf the Internet from mobile devices after the cellphone sites go up in the first half of 2010. Work on some of the sites has begun. "Wireless communications are a great enabler, and this announcement is great news for the First Nations communities who will receive wireless coverage," Ron Evans, Grand Chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, said a release. MTS Allstream’s network already provides wireless access to 97 per cent of Manitoba’s population.
