Industry Canada said Monday that it is extending the deadline for its consultation on the L-band until March 12. The Industry Department is currently consulting on what to do with the digital audio broadcast designation in the frequency range 1435-1525 MHz (the L-band). The Wire Report previously reported that the department is considering opening up designated digital audio broadcast frequencies to fixed and mobile wireless services. “The Radio Advisory Board of Canada had requested an extension of the comment period to March 31, 2010,” the department said in a notice. “In reviewing this request, the Department was concerned that such an extension could delay advancing the objectives of this file. The Department is of the view that the new deadline will provide sufficient time for stakeholders to comment and help to ensure a timely conclusion to this consultation process.” The previous deadline for comments was Feb. 19.
