Corus Entertainment Inc. has reached new a licence agreement with Rainbow Media to offer the Sundance Channel in its specialty television portfolio. The channel will be available March 1, 2010 and will air niche programming such as genre-focused cinema, documentaries, and series, Corus announced Tuesday. In 2001, the CRTC denied the Sundance Channel entry into the Canadian market because it would compete with Canadian movie channels. Under the new licence agreement and programming schedule, Corus’ Drive-In Classics will be replaced by a Canadian version of the Sundance Channel. Corus recently purchased Drive-In Classics and SexTV from CTVGlobemedia for $40 million.
