The Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) announced Wednesday that it has invested $2.9 million to support its Entertainment and Creative Cluster Partnerships Fund. The OMDC also leveraged an additional $7.1 million from 94 different partners to support 17 projects in Ontario’s entertainment and creative industries, an OMDC release said. One of the 17 recipients, Computer Animation Studios of Ontario, received funding to create web-based social networking tools that will improve communication between its members. The network is expected to be a centralized platform for employment opportunities in the computer animation sector. The Entertainment and Creative Cluster Partnerships Fund was started in 2006 and has provided $9.7 million in funding to 60 projects. The entertainment and creative industries in Ontario produce $15 billion in revenue each year. More than 200,000 people work in the industries, contributing $12.7 billion to the province’s gross domestic product, the release said.
