The Ontario College of Art & Design’s (OCAD) Strategic Innovation Lab announced plans Tuesday to lead a strategic foresight project to envision the media landscape in 2020. The project, entitled “2020 Media Futures: Strategic Foresight for Ontario’s Cultural Media Industries,” will look at what impact a cross-platform Internet environment may have on the media and entertainment industries, and what actions Ontario firms can take today to ensure an international leadership role. “2020 Media Futures will investigate several key areas of inquiry, including media convergence, consumer choice, distribution channels, distinctions between producers and consumers, interactivity, and the integration of technologies,” a release said. 2020 Media Futures is expected to take 14 months to complete and will be conducted. The project received a $132,500 grant from the Ontario Media Development Corporation. Key industry partners and the OCDA will contribute $94,000. Partners include Corus Entertainment, the National Film Board of Canada and GlassBox Television, among others.
