CTV Saskatoon announced Thursday it is now available on Bell Satellite TV’s channel 249. Bell senior vice-president of residential products Heather Tulk said in a release the company is responding to customer demand for the station. Bell also announced Monday it is making CBC Edmonton and CBC Regina available on its service. The announcements come as the CRTC reviews its direct-to-home (DTH) satellite distribution policy. A hearing is scheduled for Nov. 26. The CBC and Canwest have argued Bell TV and Shaw Direct, the country’s two incumbent DTH providers, should provide local access to their local over-the-air channels. Many communities can only access the local channels of other communities, but Bell and Shaw have said distributing all the local stations is unfeasible due to a lack of satellite capacity.
