The CBC has named journalist Kirk LaPointe as its new ombudsman, effective Nov. 1. LaPointe, who is taking over for Vince Carlin, will be responsible for hearing complaints from the public about the broadcaster’s programming and content. The office will be based in Vancouver, but will travel to the country’s CBC bureaus. LaPointe is independent of the CBC’s staff and management, and will report directly to president Hubert Lacroix. LaPointe will be leaving a position as managing editor at the Vancouver Sun to take up the new post.
