CTVglobemedia Inc. and Comcast International Media Group have signed a multi-platform deal to reintroduce Comcast’s E! Entertainment Television channel to Canada. CTV is preparing to rebrand its Star! TV specialty channel and launch it as E! on Nov. 29. CTV competitor Global Television, now known as Shaw Media, previously held the rights to E!, which it broadcasted on over-the-air channels. The deal also grants CTV the rights to the E! digital assets, including video-on-demand programming. The Star! channel’s nature of service description says it is “devoted to delivering information, lifestyle and human interest programming related to the world of entertainment.” In 2009, Star! TV had 5.68 million subscribers, according to McCarthy Tétrault’s 2010 Regulatory Guide to Canadian Television.
