NorthernTel has built out its HSPA+ network to communities along highways 11, 101, 65 and 66 in northeastern Ontario. The company said in a release that it added third generation HSPA+ wireless technology to 29 existing cellular sites and three new sites to fill in coverage gaps. The HSPA+ network will allow for peak download speeds of up to 21 Mbps, the company said. "This $4.9 million investment is a significant enhancement to the existing mobile landscape in Northeastern Ontario," Mary-Ann Bell, senior vice-president of Bell Aliant Ontario, said in a release. NorthernTel is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bell Aliant.
