Quebecor Inc. subsidiary Videotron Ltd. added 21,900 mobile subscribers during the third quarter ending Sept. 30, the company said Tuesday. Videotron launched its new wireless network with a 3.5G services on Sept. 9, 2010. Three weeks after the launch, on Sept. 30, 2010, the service had 21,900 subscriber connections, “including 11,000 migrations from the mobile virtual network operator” service, the company said. In Quebecor’s telecommunications segment, the company added 32,800 cable telephone customers during the quarter, 32,100 for cable Internet access, and 20,500 for cable television (arising in part from a 40,300-customer increase for Digital TV). "A landmark event in the history of Quebecor Media occurred during the third quarter: on September 9, 2010, Videotron launched its new 3G+ network, a major development that will shape the future of the Company and its subsidiaries,” Pierre Karl Péladeau, president and CEO of Quebecor, said in a release. “Four years after our first notice of intent, and after spending more than $1.0 billion and creating nearly 1,000 jobs, Quebecor Media has kept its promise and built a reliable, effective 3G+ network.” The company said that, in its news media division, urban dailies increased their advertising revenues by 2.4 per cent, representing advertising growth for the second consecutive quarter.
