The CRTC said Thursday it will delay its hearing on vertical integration until June 20, 2011. The hearing, first announced in October, was originally scheduled for May 9, 2011. CTVglobemedia Inc. filed a request with the commission on Nov. 19 asking to reschedule the hearing. CTV said broadcasting representatives are travelling to the U.S. in May to screen and purchase American programming for the upcoming television season. The company said the first half of June is taken up by sales presentations for large broadcasters. The commission said it would reschedule the hearing to allow industry players to participate. “Having considered the request and the importance of an early consideration of the issue of vertical integration, as well as taking into account the interests of other industry players, the Commission considers that it would be appropriate to delay the hearing date only until the earlier of the requested dates,” the CRTC said. The commission also extended the deadline for submissions to April 27, 2011. The hearing will review the commission’s safeguards to prevent anti-competitive behaviour in a vertically integrated industry.
