Manitoba is undertaking a three-year project aimed at growing its interactive digital media industry and establishing a bigger presence on the world stage. Lynne Yelich, the Minister of State for Economic Development in Manitoba, announced $433,000 in federal funding to New Manitoba Media (NMM), a not-for-profit association that is spearheading the initiative. The first phase of the project, already underway, involves an industry survey. NMM director Kevin Hnatiuk said the industry in Manitoba is fragmented with many small firms and little knowledge of the workforce, making collaboration difficult. A second phase will develop a strategy to build on the industry’s strengths, fill its gaps and pursue growth. A third phase will involve implementing marketing strategies, commercialization and training to help firms grow and make their products export-ready.
