BlackBerry shipments reached a record high in 2010, growing 43 per cent over the year to 52.3 million, Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM) said Thursday as it announced its fourth-quarter results. About 14.9 million devices were shipped in the quarter. BlackBerry was also the number one selling smartphone in Canada, the United States, Latin America and the United Kingdom in 2010, the company said. Revenues grew by one per cent in the quarter to $5.6 billion. About 81 per cent of those revenues came from devices, 16 per cent from service, and three per cent from software and other revenue. RIM also indicated that it is pouring ongoing investment into its Playbook tablet device, which it expects to launch on April 19.
