Niagara News TV is off the air, the St. Catharines Standard reported this week. The local television station, which launched in February, delivered local news to the audiences of the St. Catharines and Niagara areas of Ontario, but struggled to attract advertising. "We had a rough go in the advertising market and a bad start," Niagara News TV president Frank Thibault told the St. Catharines Standard. "Our programming was getting better, our feedback was getting better … But it simply wasn't possible to keep going. It's better sometimes to stop, regroup and see if you can proceed." The station’s 17-member staff was laid off on Monday, the Standard reported. Carried by Cogeceo Cable on channel 556, the station will for now broadcast weather and a news ticker.
