The CRTC has opened a public consultation on amendments to the exemption order for radiocommunication distributors. The commission said in a notice May 3 that it is calling for comments on a number of proposed amendments to the exemption order. It added that the purpose of a radiocommunication distribution service is to serve small, rural or often remote communities. The commission is now asking for comments on proposed amendments to its regulations and for proposals to better serve local, rural and remote communities. The CRTC said it is looking for proposals to ensure that an exempt radiocommunication distributor is not assigned the “last frequency” in a medium- or large-size market, which can prevent the licensing of a local radio service. The deadline for written comments is June 2.
