The CRTC issued a call for comments Tuesday on a cable industry working group's proposed code of best practices for access programming on cable community channels. The commission said in a notice of consultation that broadcasting distributors would benefit from the development of a code of best practices for access programming to guide distributors in their decision making. A new industry working group would be created to develop the code. The CRTC said the creation of the working group and code would benefit members of the public who wish to produce access programming. The working group would ensure that as broadcasting distributors achieve their broadcasting objectives they promote fair and consistent practices. The CRTC said the working group should include one representative each from Rogers Communications Inc., Shaw Communications Inc., Cogeco Cable Inc., EastLink, Quebecor Media Inc. and the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance. The working group would also develop a code of best practices for access programming and submit it the commission for approval no later than Feb. 26, 2011, the commission said. The deadline to submit comments is Sept. 6, 2011.
