The CRTC announced Tuesday that it has approved a broadcasting licence to operate a national, English-language specialty audio service called Chutney Radio. The commission said the programming undertaking will be solely owned by Bhupinder Bola and known as Chutney Radio. Chutney Radio will broadcast 100 per cent of its programming content in English and will cater to the broadcasting needs of Caribbean communities in Canada, the CRTC said. Bola told the CRTC that Chutney Radio would consist of talk shows, music, news and general information on sports, politics, weather, farming, education, as well as import and export issues. Bola also indicated the station would broadcast approximately 45 hours of foreign programming in each broadcast week. In order to promote and develop Canadian artistic talent, Bola told the commission that the service would broadcast local programs featuring third-party producers and local artists from Caribbean communities across Canada.
